Driver Trained Occupational Therapy

 For people living with disability, driving can provide greater independence, confidence, community participation, and access to work, education, and social opportunities. Occupational therapy driving services support NDIS participants to develop or regain the skills needed for safe driving and increased independence in everyday life. 

Occupational therapy driving assessments for NDIS participants and individuals living with disability who are learning to drive or exploring their potential to drive. 

Assessments consider cognitive, physical, visual, and functional abilities to support safe driving and greater independence. 

Comprehensive driving assessments completed by a driver-trained occupational therapist to evaluate medical, cognitive, physical, and functional capacity for safe driving. 

Assessments may include off-road and on-road components, with recommendations tailored to individual goals, licensing requirements, and independence. 

 Assessment and recommendations for vehicle modifications and adaptive driving equipment to support safe and independent driving for people living with disability. 

Recommendations are individualised and may include liaison with vehicle modifiers, rehabilitation providers, and licensing authorities. 

 Assessment and recommendations for vehicle modifications to improve accessibility, safety, and comfort for passengers and transport needs. 

Services may include wheelchair access, seating and restraint systems, hoists, and collaboration with vehicle modifiers and funding bodies, including the NDIS. 

Supporting NDIS participants to access safe and appropriate vehicle modifications that promote independence, community access, and participation in everyday life. 

Experience includes assessment, prescription, trials, reporting, and collaboration with suppliers and funding bodies for a range of vehicle modifications and adaptive equipment, including:

• Electronic and static tip-up plates. 
• Manual and electronic hand controls. 
• Spinner knobs. 
• ABI Loader. 
• Wheelchair hoists, including Wymo hoists. 
• Crane lifters. 
• Van lifters and ramps. 
• Wheelchair restraint systems and transport restraints.
